A press report confirmed, on Wednesday, that Liverpool is the most likely candidate to sign one of Sporting Lisbon’s stars. According to the international network “Goal”, German coach Jurgen Klopp is interested in Sporting’s defensive star Goncalo Inacio and expressed his admiration for his level, as he sees him as a potential replacement for Dutchman Virgil van Dijk.
Liverpool are looking to sign a distinguished centre-back with a long-term contract, to be the best heir to the ageing duo Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk.
German reports indicated that Manchester United were also interested in signing the player, before they backed down from the idea.
The same thing happened with Real Madrid, who were reported to want to sign the player during the upcoming winter transfer period, due to the injury of their defender Eder Militao.
Inacio played 13 matches with Sporting this season, and his market value is estimated at around 30 million euros.
