FIFA announced a new system during the U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia, regarding referees returning to the “VAR” technology at the request of the coach only.
FIFA published a statement on its official website, which stated: “Unlike the way the video assistant referee system works, which is used in more than 200 tournaments in 65 national associations, the video assistant referee system in football does not require video referees responsible for it, and therefore does not automatically check all the situations that could change the course of the match. Rather, the responsibility for this lies with the coaches of the two teams, who are each allowed to submit a specific number of requests in one match if they believe that a clear and blatant error has occurred during situations that could change the course of the match, such as those related to goals, penalty kicks, raising the direct red card, and misidentification of players.”
He added: “To submit a review request, coaches must give a card to the fourth official immediately after the relevant situation occurs to avoid unnecessary delay and to adhere to the laws of the game that do not allow for changing the decision taken in the event of resumption of play.”
It is worth noting that the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup will be held between August 31 and September 22.
